What do I need to know about Weapon Brand’s firearms training?

Do I need my concealed carry license?
The answer to this is state-dependent. Some states offer constitutional carry, meaning no permit is needed to conceal carry. Others allow open-carry but still require a concealed carry permit. In Florida, no permit is required to carry a firearm, but a concealed carry class helps you understand the legalities of carrying a firearm and ensures you are better trained. The Florida concealed carry license is reciprocal in many states, so always check your state’s laws before carrying a firearm.

Do you have group classes for concealed carry?

Currently, we offer our concealed carry (CCW) classes on a private session basis. The firing portion of the training takes place at Bill Jackson’s Shop for Adventure in Pinellas Park. To schedule a concealed carry session, email info@weaponbrand.com or call 727.280.5738.

Should I take the “Weapon Safety & Fundamentals” Class even if I have my concealed carry license?

Absolutely. Your concealed carry class covers the legalities of carrying a firearm, but it does not teach you how to use it effectively. The Weapon Safety and Fundamentals class provides essential skills and knowledge for safe and responsible gun ownership, ensuring you know how to handle and operate your firearm safely.

Which is the most important class?

The most important classes are the Weapon Safety and Fundamentals class and the Weapons Retention class. The former lays the foundation for using any firearm, while the latter reinforces techniques like proper draw and holstering, and maintaining control of your firearm.

Do I need my own firearm?

No, it is not required. We provide trainer replicas and actual firearms for use during training. However, we recommend investing in your own firearm to gain experience and knowledge on its function and usage. Training with your own firearm will increase your comfort level, but it's important to know how to handle any firearm.

Can you help me decide on a firearm?

Yes, our highly experienced instructors can provide non-biased, non-commissioned advice based on years of experience and tens of thousands of trained individuals. We offer recommendations tailored to your needs and can accompany you to a firearm store to help you choose the right firearm. This service is available at $150 per hour.

Why would I need the “Weapon Retention” Class?

In a defensive shooting scenario, the individual with more firearm operation experience will maintain control. This class ensures you have that expertise. It’s not about your willingness to give up your firearm, but about having the training to retain it under pressure.

Why can’t I go to the range without taking the “Weapon Safety & Fundamentals” Class?

For your protection and ours, unless you are military or law enforcement, you must take our Weapon Safety and Fundamentals class. This precaution ensures the safety of our students and trainers, as there are numerous incidents of firearms instructors being injured during training. Proper training is crucial to ensure safety at the range.

Will I use live ammunition during the “Weapon Safety & Fundamentals” Class?

No. You will focus on presenting a firearm, shooting stance, grip control, sight alignment, remedying malfunctions, and dry firing. Most elite operators spend 80-90% of their training time on dry firing. Dry firing drills are used, similar to those practiced by special operators, as it's more cost-effective and equally beneficial as live ammo training.

What order should I take the classes in?
We recommend starting with the Weapon Safety and Fundamentals class, which at Weapon Brand is called "Got a Gun... Now What?" This should be followed by the Weapons Retention class, and then your concealed carry permit license class. This order ensures that you have a solid foundation in weapon safety and retention before carrying a firearm. Without these foundational classes, having a concealed carry permit and carrying a firearm can become a liability rather than an asset.

What is the purpose of Dry-Firing and why invest time in it?

Dry-firing familiarizes your mind and body with presenting a firearm, aligning sights, applying trigger pressure, and reloading. Elite shooters and operators spend thousands of hours on dry-firing to reinforce these skills.

What are the pros & cons of using a Reflex Sight vs Iron Sights on my concealed carry handgun?

Reflex Sights can expose deficiencies in shooting basics but will improve target acquisition, sight picture, sight alignment, and situational awareness. They can significantly enhance your proficiency with foundational shooting techniques.

At Weapon Brand, we pride ourselves on being the best choice for firearms training. Our instructors are not only the most experienced and skilled but also ensure that you feel comfortable and confident throughout your training.
