SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING

Frequently asked questions

New to self-defense or feeling nervous? Start with these quick answers before you book.

Do I need to be “in shape” before I start self-defense training?
No. Classes are built for real people, not pro athletes. We scale drills to your fitness level and focus on technique, awareness, and decision-making first. You can build strength and conditioning over time.
I’m anxious about physical contact. Is this training still for me?
Yes. Many students start out nervous about close contact. We introduce drills gradually, explain each step, and let you set your own pace and boundaries. You’re always allowed to say “pause” or “no” during a drill.
What should I wear and bring to a self-defense class?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing you can move in and closed-toe shoes with good grip. Bring water and, if you like, a small towel and notebook. We provide pads, training gear, and any equipment used in class.
Can I train if I have an old injury or mobility limitation?
In most cases, yes. Our trainers are adaptive athlete coaches. Let us know about injuries or limitations before class and we’ll modify drills so you can participate safely. If you’re unsure, check with your doctor first and then share any restrictions with us.
Do I need previous martial arts or combat sports experience?
No experience required. Most of our students are beginners. If you do have a background in martial arts or sports, we’ll build on what you already know and focus on real-world self-defense scenarios.
Can I come by myself, or do I need a partner?
You’re welcome to come alone. We’ll pair you with another student or coach for partner drills. You can also bring a friend, partner, or family member if you’d like to train together.
