When Your Job Makes You a Target: What a Photographer’s Story and Mine Can Teach You About Personal Safety
Watch this video
It shows a photographer, alone, walking back to his car after a shoot when he’s suddenly approached by masked men intent on robbing him.
They don’t talk. They don’t hesitate. They’re there for one reason—his gear.
What they didn’t know was that he was armed.
He never fired the gun, but just revealing that he had it was enough to send them running. That split-second decision—backed by the confidence and training to use it safely—likely saved his life.
The video is a reenactment, but the threat was real. And it’s one that’s becoming more and more common.
You Don’t Need to Be Carrying Thousands in Gear to Be a Target
That story could’ve ended very differently.
But here’s the thing: he had expensive equipment.
I didn’t—and I was still attacked.
Before Weapon Brand existed, I was a mortgage broker. I wasn’t hauling camera gear or tools. I was just doing my job—trying to help someone refinance their home.
And that’s when I was physically attacked.
No warning. No gear to steal. Nothing but me, vulnerable and unprepared.
That moment changed everything. It’s why I do what I do now.
Because whether it’s your gear or just your presence—you can be seen as an opportunity by the wrong person.
Who Needs to Hear This
We work with people who never thought they’d be in danger… until they were.
People like:
📸 Photographers / Videographers
🔧 Contractors and tradespeople
💻 IT techs / Mobile mechanics
🚚 Delivery drivers
💊 Medical staff transporting equipment or prescriptions
🧳 Sales reps traveling with products or tech
Sometimes the gear is what makes you a target.
Sometimes it’s the fact that you’re working alone.
And sometimes—it’s just that you were there.
What We Teach at Weapon Brand
At Weapon Brand, we don’t just teach you how to react—we teach you how to think, assess, and avoid danger in the first place. Our training includes:
Spotting universal behaviors every predator displays before an attack
Increasing situational awareness so you’re never caught off guard
Identifying the three key vulnerable areas—eyes, throat, groin—if you do have to defend yourself
For those legally carrying, knowing how and when to draw responsibly
Whether or not you carry a weapon, you are a weapon—if you’re trained to be.
If You Run a Business, Your Team Needs This
If your employees are in the field—walking alone, carrying gear, entering homes or job sites—they need this training. We offer private, customized sessions based on real-world risks your team faces.
Because replacing equipment is one thing.
But protecting your people? That’s everything.
I didn’t have that training when I needed it.
Let’s make sure you and your team do.
